AWS IoT TwinMaker Tutorial

AWS IoT TwinMaker enables the creation of digital twins by integrating real-time IoT data with 3D models. When combined with Treedis, it enhances the capabilities of digital twin environments by adding real-time IoT data visualization directly onto the 3D models created within the Treedis platform. This data can then be seen across web, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.

Benefits

  • Real-time monitoring: Treedis users can monitor the status of equipment or facilities live, improving decision-making and maintenance operations.
  • Efficient operations: The combination of IoT data and spatial computing optimizes workflows, reducing downtime and enhancing productivity.
  • Enhanced safety: By visualizing safety protocols and hazards directly in the workspace, teams can operate more securely.

Integrating the TwinMaker with Treedis

Step 1: Set Up Your AWS IoT SiteWise Account

Start by configuring your AWS IoT SiteWise account, where you will collect, organize, and analyze your equipment data. This process must be completed on-premise.

Step 2: Setup Your AWS IoT TwinMaker Environment

Next, set up your AWS IoT TwinMaker environment:

Navigate to "Workspaces" and create a new workspace.

Once your workspace is created, go to the "Entities" section to connect your SiteWise account to TwinMaker.

After creating an entity, add a component to it by assigning a name and description. The component type should be set to SiteWise Connector. Then, select the asset you want to connect and add it as a component.

Step 3: Configure Matterport Scene in TwinMaker

Now that the component is added, navigate to "Scenes" to integrate your Matterport scene or model.

Connect the Matterport model by providing its PME token and selecting the correct model ID.

The Matterport model will appear empty initially. To connect sensors, go to the "Hierarchy" tab and add a new tag to the scene.

The tag’s position doesn’t matter, as it will be used for data reading, not location tracking. (Note: The position is managed by Matterport or Treedis tags—TwinMaker tags serve a different purpose).

When adding a tag, name it and link it to the entity you created earlier. Select the appropriate demo component and the property you'd like to represent.

Keep in mind: Rule ID is not currently supported in Treedis.

Step 4: Integrate with Treedis

After setting up SiteWise and TwinMaker, proceed to your Treedis account.

  1. Upload the same Matterport model used in TwinMaker.
  2. In Treedis, go to Workspace > Tags and place tags at the desired locations within the tour.
  3. Navigate to the IoT section, select TwinMaker as the provider, and fill in the required details.

Sync the devices. This will pull in the sensors added through TwinMaker's Hierarchy tab.

Click Connect and specify the measurement names, units, and other relevant information.

The data will now appear in the sensor list, as well as in the tags, which can be Matterport or Treedis tags (the type of tag does not matter).

Note: The TwinMaker integration is available on the Enterprise plan. If you'd like to learn more about this feature, reach out to us for a call.
